The Cancer Center of Southeast Texas prides themselves on having the most compassionate and personalized cancer care in town; this would not be possible without the contribution of our caring, dedicated and qualified specialized teams.
Our Radiation therapist work one-on-one with patients administering therapeutic doses of radiation treatments as prescribed by our board certified radiation oncologist. At the Cancer Center of Southeast Texas our team of therapist offers over 35 years of combined experience, with many of them having received extensive training at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.
A medical dosimetrist is mainly responsible for developing the treatment plans with optimal dose distributions. He/she works closely with the radiation oncologist and designs an individual treatment plan for each cancer patient based on doctor’s radiation prescription. The goal of the dosimetrist is to develop a treatment plan that will give necessary dose to the tumor (cancer) and reduce damage to the surrounding healthy, normal tissue and organs.
A medical physicist does double checks of each patient’s treatment plan prior to the patient’s first treatment and checks on patient charts periodically. The physicist also makes certain the accurate radiation dose is being delivered to the patients by performing radiation measurements and quality assurance. The quality assurance (QA) includes calibrating the radiation therapy equipment and ensuring the equipment functions correctly and safely.
At the Cancer center of Southeast Texas we have a very diverse group of nursing professionals. We currently utilize medical assistants, LVN’s and RN’s to help deliver individualized cancer care. Our medical assistants and licensed vocational nurse play a vital role in the clinic setting. They help facilitate the doctor- patient visit; schedule needed test, and provide patient education. Our registered nurses, like the radiation therapist, are at the core of cancer treatments. They administer chemotherapeutic agents, offer emotional guidance and support, provide nutritional education and offer sick visit triage for any patient undergoing cancer therapy treatments. At the Cancer Center of Southeast Texas we pride our self on having qualified individuals in our center to help care for you, for this reason we encourage our nursing staff to obtain oncology certification.
Unfortunately sometimes cancer treatments carry a heavy financial burden. At the Cancer Center of Southeast Texas we understand the financial impact that comes with the diagnosis of cancer. For this reason we employee a financial counselor who is available to help search for and qualify patients for co-pay assistance programs. The financial counselor is on site and readily available to discuss any billing questions and concerns, formulate payment plans for patients undergoing radiation therapy and assist patients with transportation needs through their insurance carrier or various charitable foundations. The financial counselor oversees all precertification with insurance companies. The pre-cert team will make certain all adequate measures are taken to ensure your health insurer will cover your required treatments.
At the Cancer Center of Southeast Texas we understand that sometimes it may be easier to speak with someone who has previously undergone cancer treatments. For this reason we have organized a volunteer team, which is comprised of past patients, relatives and caring people within the community who volunteer their time to help us make each patient’s journey a little less stressful. Our volunteers are on site to talk with patients and share stories. They also offer snacks, blankets, drinks or whatever it is you may need to feel comfortable.
Patient Intake coordinators
The first step in the diagnosis or treatment of cancer is getting established with a qualified oncologist. Our patient intake coordinators gather all the relevant and needed information and guide the patient’s through the initial consultation process. They coordinate visit with other team members within the cancer treatment process.
Our certified pharmacy technician is trained and has specialized in chemotherapy preparation and safe handling. We have a pharmacy technician on staff who is here to help facilitate the safe administration of chemotherapeutic agents. Our pharmacy technician also helps maintain OSHA compliance and regulate safety standards across the practice.
